Omar Abdullah has been appointed once again as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, heading a cabinet with five ministers in a noteworthy political decision. This recently formed government, with a limited number of Congress party members, has started conversations among political experts and Omar Abdullah Cabinet Jammu and Kashmir.

A Short Summary of the Cabinet

The cabinet is made up of four NC members and one MLA who is independent. The Congress party, who ran in the recent elections with the NC, has chosen to not accept any ministerial roles, showing a strategic decision in the changing political environment of the area.

Meet the Ministers

1. Sakina Itoo

Sakina Itoo is notable as the lone female minister in the cabinet. As a prominent figure in the National Conference, she achieved a major win in the DH Pora assembly area of Kulgam district, receiving 36,623 votes and defeating her closest competitor by a lead of 17,449 votes. 

Itoo is familiar with the political field as she has previously served in different roles such as social welfare, education, and tourism. She achieved a historic milestone by becoming the youngest member of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly at the age of 26 in 1996.

2. Surinder Choudhary

Surinder Choudhary won the election that took place in the Nowshera area of Jammu. Choudhary, previously associated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), served as a member of the Legislative Council. 

Afterward, he moved to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and eventually became a member of the National Conference in July 2023. His increasing dominance in the area is evident in his triumph over BJP leader Ravinder Raina by a margin of over 7,000 votes in the election.

3. Javed Rana

Javed Ahmed Rana, the elected representative for the Mendhar assembly constituency designated for Scheduled Tribes, has broad political experience. Prior to Jammu and Kashmir being designated as a Union Territory, he served in both the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council.

In the most recent surveys, Rana emerged as the clear winner with a considerable lead, securing 32,176 votes and triumphing over the BJP's contender.

Hailing from Kalaban village in the Poonch district, he holds degrees in arts and law from the University of Jammu.

4. Satish Sharma

Satish Sharma, an independent candidate, emerged victorious in the Chammb constituency by surpassing BJP leader Rajeev Sharma with a lead of 6,929 votes. Before being elected, he had backed the National Conference-Congress alliance but decided to stand as an independent candidate when Congress refused to give him a ticket. 

Sharma is the son of Madan Lal Sharma, a well-known Congress leader and former Lok Sabha MP who has passed away.

5. Javed Ahmed Dar

Javed Ahmed Dar, an experienced politician, has rejoined the cabinet after previously holding a ministerial position under Omar Abdullah in the Congress-NC coalition government. He won the election in the Rafiabad constituency of North Kashmir with 28,783 votes, beating Yawar Ahmad Mir from the Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party by a significant difference.
