Criticism of security arrangements
The Chennai police, which has deployed around 6,500 personnel and 1,500 home guards for security, has faced widespread criticism for its handling of the thousand. Local authorities expressed frustration over the lack of traffic and queue management during the national convention. AIADMK leader Edappadi K Palaniswami criticized the Tamil Nadu government led by Chief Minister MK Stalin for not making proper arrangements. During the 92nd anniversary of the Indian Air Force, one of the most important units of the Ministry of India, an air show program was held in Chennai to celebrate the strength of the Air Force. As the notification for this was published in advance, knowing that lakhs of people would come to visit, the Tamil Nadu government informed that arrangements had been made for transportation and basic facilities. However, during the campaign, the administrative arrangements and congestion and traffic were not handled properly." Palaniwami, pointing to the lack of basic equipment, appealed to many people. He expressed his sincere condolences to the families affected by the tragedy and criticized the DMK government for its laxity.
coordination to manage a major crisis
BJP national spokesperson CR Kesavan also weighed in, describing the situation as a clear example of the "negligence and incompetence" of the DMK government. He questioned, "Is this the DMK government's Dravida model of utter negligence and incompetence? Yesterday's incident at the Chennai air show clearly showed that the DMK state government was led to uncertainty and was not ready to handle this crisis. The Indian Air Force didn't care about the risk of death or blame for crowd control problems, not just for crowd control but for safety and well-being. Adequate access, including sanitation, potable water stations, and effective population management strategies, must be key to preventing these disasters in the future.
